Moncarapacho
Moncarapacho, in the
Eastern Algarve, is an unspoilt village located between Faro and Tavira. Set in
some stunning countryside against the St. Miguel Mountain, this rural village
offers views of the wonderful landscape full of citrus groves, pomegranate, fig
and almond trees, and is home to some lovely private villas and country-house
hotels. Although a few kilometres inland, Moncarapacho is close
to some of the lovely sandy beaches of the eastern
Algarve, easily accessible from the village.
Sitting on the edge of the Ria Formosa National Park, a huge expanse of
protected wetland area on the coast, the beaches of the area are on local
sandbanks, accessible by ferry or trains. The closest beach is at Fuseta, a
traditional fishing village where the boats still bring in the catch of the day,
and local water-taxis ferry passengers across the lagoon to the beach with its’
white sands, backed by plenty of beach bars and cafes. Also close to
Moncarapacho is the attractive town of Tavira, set on the banks of the River
Gilao, and famous for its’ ruined castle and Roman bridge. From here a ferry
takes passengers to the lovely unspoilt beach of Isla de Tavira, also reached by
train from the village of Pedras del Rei.
